Arriving in this world on April 22, 1939, Sandra Lou Leeds, 84, passed away on Oct. 1, 2023, after a brave fight against leukemia. She most recently resided with daughter, Linda, in Eufaula, Okla., who was her full-time caretaker for the past year. The devotion of care that Linda provided assisted her in living her last days with dignity and love. Her two other children visited regularly.

Children’s JC to host Safe Halloween

Body

The Gary E. Miller Canadian County Children’s Justice Center will host the third annual Safe Halloween event for a local school.

On Tuesday morning, children ages 6 to 8 will dress up and fill their bags with candy and prizes as they tour the center.

Center staff have decorated the halls and will dress up to hand out candy. Staff will also enjoy a pumpkin decorating contest, costume contest and hall decorating contest.

Danny Wynn Reed and Dana Lynn Reed were born as twins on Oct. 2, 1953, in Fort Smith, Ark., to Jess Barton Reed Jr. and Mary Campbell Reed.

Danny passed away Oct. 18, 2023, in Oklahoma City.

Danny is survived by his sister, Karen Reed of El Reno.

Local church prepares for BBQ outreach

Fresh Anointing Church will host its Holy Smokes Barbecue Cook-Out Rematch on Saturday, Nov. 11.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. and will continue until the food runs out.

There will also be a silent auction.

Services for Hubert Harold Davis, a former Minco resident, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27 at Minco First Baptist Church, with burial following at the Evergreen Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Huber-Reynolds Funeral Home.

Hubert passed away Oct. 21, 2023, at St. Katharine Drexel Retirement Center in El Reno. He was born Aug. 3, 1927, in Ozark, Ark. He graduated from Minco High School in 1945.

A Celebration of Life service for Michael (Mike) Gene Jackson will be held on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Discovery Church in Yukon. Services will be under the direction of Yanda & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Yukon.

Mike went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 20, 2023. He was born in Watonga, Okla., on March 2, 1952, to his parents, Glenn Edward and Betty Jean (Boston) Jackson.

He married Frances A. Jackson on Dec. 9, 1989.

From the sidelines: Posey’s induction into Golf Coaches HOF right on par

Having coached for over half a century in various sports, not only for El Reno Public Schools but three other educational groups, there are very few honors that Ken Posey has not achieved.

His name appears on the basketball court at Etta Dale Junior High as tribute to his coaching years in both football and basketball. The practice green at Crimson Creek Golf Course also carries his name, honoring his five-plus decades in the sport.

El Reno lands six on 5A-2 team

A third-place finish in league play helped six El Reno High School players land spots on the 2023 All-District 5A-2 Softball Team during voting last week by member coaches.

El Reno’s six honorees included one superlative award as senior Jacy Little was tabbed as the district’s Defensive Player of the Year as well as a first team pick.

Other first team selections included Iliana Ashford at third base and Maddie Moss in the outfield.

El Reno had three players earn second team honors in seniors Raley Hartley and Justine Johnson and junior Ryah Hardy.

El Reno High School’s football team sports an offense on pace to crack 4,000 total yards for the first time in over a decade.

Quarterback Elijah Fisher and running back Malachi Nicholson have combined for more than 2,600 yards rushing.
