Three EHS pitchers toss two-hitter as Indians split twinbill with Red Wolves

OKLAHOMA CITY – Three pitchers combined for a two-hit performance as El Reno High School's Varsity 2 team defeated Capitol Hill 5-1 to split a Red Dirt League series here last week.

It was the first win for the Indians in RDL action to improve to 1-1-1 on the summer. The Indians dropped the opening game of the series 4-2 after allowing the Red Wolves four unanswered runs over the final two frames.

Calumet remains undefeated in limited action

Body

Despite losing six games to rain, Calumet High School’s baseball team remains undefeated on the summer season following a 6-2 road win over Arapaho-Butler.

The Chieftains moved to 3-0 on the summer with the win. The other victories were over Sentinel (11-1) and Clinton (8-1).

Hunter Arnold picked up the win on the mound over Arapaho-Butler, scattering a hit and two walks over three innings, while striking out six batters.

Softball work in the summer

Under new head coach Jason Little, El Reno High School's softball team will travel to Piedmont on Tuesday to take part in the second date of the Piedmont Summer League.

El Reno defeated Edmond Memorial and tied the Wildcats in the first day of the league earlier this month.

Underwood OHCE holds meeting at local coffee shop

The Underwood OHCE met recently at a local coffee shop. Members present were Natalia Valenzuela, Bernita Davis, Janan Fletcher, Vicki Duncan and Delpha Miklautsch.

Roll call was answered by saying who is/was your female role model.

Davis read minutes from the previous meeting, while Fletcher gave the treasurer’s report.

D.C. trip

Body

Six high school students from Oklahoma Virtual Charter Academy spent four days in Washington, D.C., as part of a school trip where they met with Rep. Stephanie Bice.

The students also visited iconic sites including the White House and the 9/11 and Washington Memorials, and experienced a performance at the Kennedy Center.

RCC names top students

Redlands Community College recently announced students named to the college’s honor rolls for the spring 2023 semester.

Students listed on the President’s Honor Roll have completed 12 or more credit hours and have earned a GPA of not less than 3.8, with no grade less than a B – excluding 0-level courses.

The Vice President’s Honor Roll includes students who have completed 12 or more hours of coursework and have earned a GPA of 3.5 to 3.79, with no grade less than a C – excluding 0-level courses.

City clears path for Twisters filming

Twisters is coming to downtown El Reno as well as other areas of the community.

Last week, the city council voted 5-0 to grant a permit to Dirt Road Films, LLC for the production of the expected blockbuster sequel to the original Twister. But there were some caveats to the permit.

Council wants all parties impacted by the expected month-long production to sign off on the plan.

To make that happen, representatives of the film company were expected to meet with officials from MidFirst Bank following the special council meeting held on Thursday.

Beating the weekend heat

With temperatures pushing into the high 80s and low 90s over the weekend, Lake El Reno became a popular destination for a little fun on the water for fishermen, boaters and personal watercraft.

After a brief cool-down early in the week, temperatures are expected to return to the 90s by the end of the week.
