Cattlemen’s selected for National Steak House Hall of Fame

Oklahoma City’s most iconic restaurant, Cattlemen’s Steakhouse, has been selected for induction into the National Steak House Hall of Fame.

Cattlemen’s is the only steakhouse in Oklahoma to hold this distinction.

“Cattlemen’s is the oldest continuously operating restaurant in Oklahoma City,” said Cattlemen’s owner Dick Stubbs.

McBride comments on banks being added to banned list for state contracts

OKLAHOMA CITY – Rep. Mark McBride, R-Moore, said legislation he authored that will ban 13 major financial institutions from state contracts as a result of their environmental, social and governance (ESG) policies is good for Oklahoma.

House Bill 2034, the Energy Discrimination Elimination Act of 2022, signed into law last May, took effect Nov. 1.

Stranded runners a royal pain in setback to Noble

Body

The lack of clutch hits with runners in scoring position came back to haunt El Reno High School’s baseball team in a 10-5 non-district loss to Noble in the regular-season finale for both schools.

El Reno, by dropping its second straight non-district home game, will take a 14-19 overall record into the Class 5A West Region 1 Championships, which started Thursday in Piedmont.

Cyril puts a stop to Union City’s cinderella effort

OKLAHOMA CITY – Union City’s historical run to the Class 2A Oklahoma State High School Slow-Pitch Softball Championships came to an end in the quarterfinals with a 17-5 loss to fourth-ranked Cyril.

The Tigers, ranked sixth in the state, end their season with a 26-15 record.

“I was really proud of them. We could have given up but the bottom half of our order kept the game going and allowed our seniors to get up to bat again.

El Reno High School’s wrestling program held a national letter of intent signing day recently as from left, Will Heger, Kylar Kurtz and Dailey Jennings signed with college programs.

Heger and Jennings will wrestle at the University of Central Oklahoma, while Kurtz will follow in his father, Kevin’s footsteps and wrestle at Harvard College.

El Reno’s Remy Whitney recently placed twice in the USA Wrestling Women’s Nationals.

She was fourth in the 14-and-under division at 85 pounds and then took fifth in the 15-and-under division at 39 kilograms.

With those finishes, she earned a tryout spot for the Pan American Games later this year.

Girls have rough day at regional

Navigating through what head coach Jennifer Myers called a “rough day,” El Reno High School’s girls tennis team failed to advance any players to the 2023 Class 5A Girls Tennis Championships.

Playing in the Class 5A West Regional in Duncan, El Reno logged two seventh-place finishes from its doubles teams, while singles players took eighth.

Despite posting two of its better rounds of the season, El Reno High School’s boys golf squad missed out on team and individual passes to the 2023 Class 5A Boys State Golf Championships.

Playing in the 5A West Regional on the Augusta Course at Cedar Valley Golf Club in Guthrie, El Reno fell short of the final team pass by 74 strokes, which went to Noble with a 36-hole total of 666.

Duncan (582), Piedmont (614), Carl Albert (629), Bishop McGuinness (637) and Altus (639) were the other five schools to make state.
