We are excited to begin another year in our after-school programs.

The district was able to secure special funding to offer free after-school care to students in pre-kindergarten through second grade this year.

Specifically, pre-K and kindergarten students will be at Hillcrest and will be in a play-based program.

Students in first and second grade will be at Rose Witcher, also in a play-based program.

Third through sixth grades will continue their free, grant-funded program at Roblyer Learning Center.

And the company that just set up its multimillion-dollar operation in El Reno known as Flogistix is said to be on the leading edge of making sure the plentiful and inexpensive resource is made even cleaner.

Keith Hagen is a taxidermist. Which means he makes dead animals look alive. He’s apparently pretty good at it, too.

Another thing Hagen is good at is helping people. Especially people who are hurting or who may be struggling with serious health issues.

On Aug. 20, Hagen will put those people-helping skills to work again when he hosts the Southern Plains Outdoor Show. The event will be at the Union City baseball field at the corner of U.S. 81 and SH 152.

Redlands Community College will offer new courses and two new agriculture degree options focusing on agriculture technology, thanks to a five-year grant totaling nearly $1.5 million by the U.S. Department of Education.

El Reno High School’s football program kicked off two-a-day preseason football drills Monday morning on the turf at Memorial Stadium.

The Indians will be in shorts and helmets through Thursday while following heat acclimation protocol set forth by the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association.

NORMAN – Being billed as an upper echelon team with state tournament potential, Calumet High School’s baseball program wasted little time in testing those predictions.

The Chieftains, under new head coach Cody Thiessen, opened up the 2022 fall season with a 5-3 win over Rattan in the Best of the Best East vs. West Baseball Festival.

Rattan was a 25-game winner last spring and made the Class A state quarterfinals. Calumet posted a 22-win season run that ended in the regional finals.
