Winners picked in Quilt Block Challenge

A Quilt Block Challenge was featured at the 2021 Canadian County Fair.

The contest was sponsored by Canadian County Oklahoma Home and Community Education and the winners were determined by viewers choice voting. Proceeds from the purchase of the designated fabric benefits the Canadian County OHCE High School Scholarship Fund.

The winners were Andrea Reed, first place; Patsy Shropshire, second place; Pamela Bretz, third place; Vonnie Meritt, fourth place; and Marcia Ellison, fifth place.

Audine Morrow Graybill

Audine Morrow Graybill was born June 7, 1944, in Hammon to Warren and Betty Joe (Trent) Morrow.

She was baptized in 1955 at the Hammon Church of Christ.

Audine passed away Sept. 5, 2021, in Oklahoma City at the age of 77 surrounded by family.

Audine attended Hammon School before she married Allen D. Graybill on Aug. 19, 1966 (55 years married). She completed coursework at Central State University and Oklahoma State University starting in 1966.

Bubby Gene Watts

Body

Funeral services for Bubby Gene Watts of El Reno will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 at First Pentecostal Church of God, with burial following in the El Reno Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home.

Mr. Watts passed away Sept. 7, 2021, at home with his loving family by his side. He was born Feb. 1, 1939, in El Reno. He married Doris Powell of El Reno, the love of his life, both of whom were inseparable, on Dec. 23, 1955.

Susan Louise Cunningham

Body

Susan Louise Cunningham was born in Portland, Ore., on Dec. 12, 1943. She grew up in Warrenton, Ore., where she attended Warrenton High School. Susan lived in several other areas before settling in El Reno in 1975.

She enjoyed jewelry-making, collecting semi-precious stones and rock concerts, you go, Granny!

Susan was a Quality Control Inspector with Lucent Technologies when she retired after a 20-plus-year career.

Thirza Pollock

Graveside services for Thirza Margaret Pollock were held Thursday at the Concho Cemetery with Rev. Mickey Black officiating. Services were under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Thirza died Sept. 3, 2021, at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was born Dec. 10, 1961, in Okarche. She was raised in El Reno and lived in Lawton, Oklahoma City, Geary and Yukon before returning to El Reno in 1992. She was a caregiver.

Graveside services for Sarah Star Toledo were held Friday at the Concho Cemetery under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Star died Sept. 6, 2021, at her home in Holdenville. She was born Dec. 12, 1972, in Tooele, Utah. She was raised in Salt Lake City and moved to Oklahoma in 2001. She was a homemaker and member of the Tookparfka Baptist Church in Calvin.

Floella Pointer

Memorial services for Floella Pointer were held Wednesday, Sept. 8 at Wilson Funeral Home.

Floella went to be with the Lord on Aug. 4, 2021, in Oklahoma City. She was born to Herschel and Myrtle King on Aug. 30, 1937, in El Reno. Floella was a longtime resident of El Reno, Union City and Calumet. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She enjoyed being around her family, traveling with her sisters, and gardening. Her grandchildren will miss her chocolate cake.

Guymon’s seventh-inning stretch ended up plucking two road wins off the victory tree from El Reno High School’s softball team last week in District 5A-2 action.

The two one-run setbacks at Guymon, 3-2 and 4-3, extended El Reno’s current losing streak to three straight games as the Indians slipped to 3-9 on the season.

Kylee Webb’s team is now sixth in the 5A-2 standings at 1-5, while the Tigers jumped to third.

El Reno took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning in game one before Guymon hit a walk-off double with two runners on base.
