El Reno sends pair to 5A state

Despite cutting 17 shots off its score from the first time playing the Aqua Canyon Course at the Cimarron Nation Golf Club, El Reno High School’s girls golf team fell short of the mark needed to make state.

“I’m disappointed and the team is disappointed because we know that we could have done better than we did. But the team this year is young, and they are only going to continue getting better and I can see next year as El Reno’s year,” said head coach Sarah Brower.

Tennis team places 10th in regular-season finale

El Reno High School’s tennis team closed out the regular season last week by scoring 32 points at the 2021 Lawton MacArthur Highlander Classic.

Played at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center, El Reno placed 10th overall, finishing ahead of Anadarko and Purcell. The Indians were a point behind Perry and six points back of Northwest Classen.

El Reno’s top placing was a runner-up effort by No.2 doubles team of Kenzie Holsted and Riley Connor. The pair defeated Tecumseh’s Kylie Thornton and Yanez Moore (6-0/6-1), followed by a three-set win over Elk City (6-4/3-6/10-6).

The Indians pitching staff was hit hard by the Yukon Millers in a 14-0 win over the Indians.

El Reno was slated to play a playoff tuneup game on Monday against Santa Fe South at the Hub Reed Complex.

Calumet, UC exit playoff runs

While it pushed Canute to the limit, Calumet High School’s baseball team had its spring season halted by the top-ranked Trojans 5-3 in the title game of the Class A, Region 1 Championship.

Calumet, ranked 16th in the state, went 2-2 for the regional with wins over Oklahoma Bible Academy (7-3) and Hollis (13-0) – which defeated the Chieftains 12-10 in the opener.

The Chieftains ended the season with a 20-4 mark.

Calumet batted .325 as a team for the four games, going 37-of-114, with 33 runs, 31 walks and 27 runs batted in against 15 strikeouts.
