Citywide cleanup

Body

El Reno turned out big time Saturday for the Big Bulk Dump Day held near the Denny-Crump Rodeo Arena. Lines began forming early with vehicles filled with all kinds of debris and unwanted household items. By mid-afternoon the line of vehicle waiting to unload stretched onto Sunset Drive, as far east as Vicki’s Drive-Thru Convenience Store.

The city of El Reno partnered with the Oklahoma Environmental Management Authority to host the cleanup event.

Charles Martin and three other men were wing foiling on the water thanks to a strong north wind.

The men use surfboards that are equipped with a foil on the bottom that allows, with the help of the wing-type sail, to rise out of the water.

The group normally rides on Lake Hefner but switches to Lake El Reno when the wind is right to practice sharp turning, said one of the riders.

ER doubles team draws tough foes

OKLAHOMA CITY – El Reno’s first girls doubles team to make the final tournament of the season in more than five years fell into the tough side of the bracket at the 2021 Oklahoma High School Girls State Tennis Championship.

Seniors Riley Connor and Kenzie Holsted played the No.1 doubles bracket at state, which was held at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center. The pair drew top-seeded Lily Plaster and Annabell Treadwell of Heritage Hall in the first round.

While the El Reno duo won several points, the Chargers pair rolled to a 6-0/6-0 win over the Indians.

NOBLE – While El Reno High School did not emerge the winner of the Class 5A, West Region 1 Baseball Championship, it will go down as one of the more memorable postseasons for the Indians.

El Reno posted a 1-2 record, beating Southeast 16-0, to close the season with a 15-20 record. However, it was the two losses to Lawton Eisenhower, by scores of 4-0 and 9-1, which drew the most attention.
