Fresh Anointing Church to hold community sing March 14

After a long cold winter, Fresh Anointing Church will host a celebration of Community Singing at 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 14. The public is invited to attend.

The church is practicing social distancing and the seats are sanitized. All that is needed is your presence, an email statement said.

Nine days short of a full year away from the ballpark, El Reno High School’s baseball team returned to the diamond to open the 2021 spring season last week with a 6-2 win over Rush Springs.

“That’s a long time when you put it that way. It was nice to be able to play again. Life is better with baseball than without it,” said El Reno head coach Keith Hill.

El Reno High School’s boys powerlifting team recently took second place in the Large School division at the 2021 Chickasha meet, scoring 118 points.

Caleb Hulbutta led the way for El Reno with a first-place effort in the 275-pound weight class, beating his weight total for the season by 75 pounds. His 1,315 total weight was highlighted by a 560-pound dead lift, followed by a 475-pound squat and a 310-pound bench.

Redlands basketball splits OCAC games with Connors

Redlands Community College women’s basketball team remained second in the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference standings following a recent 50-38 win over Connors State College.

The victory was the second in a row as the Cougars improved to 6-1 on the season and 3-1 in the OCAC, a game and a half back of Eastern Oklahoma for the lead.

Idalis Ortiz scored a game-high 17 points off 7-of-18 shooting, including a pair of 3-pointers. She added six assists and four rebounds. Shakira Patterson came off the bench to score 11 points and added seven boards.

El Reno soccer kicks off ’21 season on the road

El Reno High School’s soccer teams took to the pitch last week to open the 2021 season, recording one win in four road matches as the Indians play their first three dates away from Memorial Stadium.

The El Reno girls improved to 1-1 on the season with a 1-0 win over Chickasha in the U.S. 81 Battle. The win came on the heels of a 3-1 loss to Ardmore, in which El Reno lost in penalty kicks by a 2-0 margin.

Redlands wins opener, hits tough road patch with five-game slide

Redlands Community College’s baseball team kicked off the 2021 season with a 5-4 win over Clarendon College, but has since fallen on hard times with a five-game losing streak.

The Cougars dropped three games to the Bulldogs by duplicate 11-1 scores and a 16-4 defeat after winning the opener. Redlands then dropped two non-conference games to Eastern Oklahoma State College by scores of 11-10 and 6-4.

The Cougars are hitting .242 as a team with 36 hits, 25 runs and 20 runs batted in over the six-game stretch.

Celebration of Life services for LaDonna S. Weir of El Reno will be held in May at Lake El Reno with her daughters to officiate. Cremation was under direction of Alpha and Omega Cremation Services. Call Angela at 580-701-3451 for service information.

LaDonna died Feb. 15, 2021, at her home. She was born Oct. 12, 1966, in Fort Smith, Ark. She was a jack of all trades and was known to help anyone in need.
