Body The Hunter Showdown, a new stop on the Southern Drag Boat Association’s 2020 racing schedule, brought some interesting boats, paint schemes and speeds to Lake El Reno over the weekend.

Body Downtown El Reno could see sidewalk dining in the future after a joint meeting of the city council and the Municipal Planning Commission. The groups gathered outside the Centre Theatre last week to discuss the idea and from the sounds of it, it’s an idea that is moving forward.

Body Voters who plan to cast their votes in the Nov. 3 General Election by absentee ballot should begin receiving them in the mail. Wanda Armold, Canadian County Election Board secretary, said more than 9,500 people had requested absentee mail-in ballots.

Body While there were no floats due to COVID-19 concerns, El Reno High School held a socially-distanced football homecoming parade last week.

Body Canadian County Sheriff Chris West said his volunteer posse is ready for training. West said last summer he intended to create a Citizen Posse to help protect the citizens of Canadian County.

Body Frontier Chevrolet presented El Reno Public Schools with a gift of $10,000. The presentation was made in the showroom of the dealership and is part of the Chevy Drives Education Program.

Body Year in and year out, there are very few games in the District 5A-1 lineup each week without some sort of playoff implications. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the length of the district schedule as well as the 2020 season as a whole still remains up in the air.

Body El Reno High School’s volleyball team, ranked fifth in Class 5A, moved one victory away from reaching the 20-win plateau last week with a 3-2 win over Noble in Suburban Conference action.
