The 48th Annual Canadian County Junior Livestock Show brought young people from throughout Canadian County to the fairgrounds over the weekend.
Like previous years, it was a full house in the agriculture building. Hundreds of cattle, pigs, sheep and goats were packed both inside and outside the barn. Some of these creatures will eventually enter the food market. For now, they are the pride and joy of their young handlers.
Walter L. Ross, 96 years young, was born in Chickasha, Okla., the third of seven children of Henry Ross and Marie Decker Ross. Friends and family called him Wege or Wegie. To his grandchildren he was Grandad or Grandad Boop. His greeting to them in infancy and childhood was a big smile and a tap of the forefinger, punctuated by the sound “boop” – the sign that they were special and dearly loved.
Funeral services for Mary Margaret Murray will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Benson Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dick Kurtz officiating. Burial will be in the El Reno Cemetery under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.
Mary died March 7, 2020, at her home in El Reno. She was born Sept. 17, 1928, in El Reno. She was a lifelong resident of the community, graduating from El Reno High School in 1946. She worked at the El Reno Tribune before working as a court clerk for Canadian County. Mary was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Services for James Walter Barker will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2020, at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Allen Carson officiating. Burial will follow in the Buena Vista Cemetery under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.
Wake service for Calvin James Sankey will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Concho Community Hall. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Geary with Rev. George Akeen officiating. Burial will be in the Concho Cemetery under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.
C.J. died March 5, 2020, at Southwest Community Center in Oklahoma City. He was born May 28, 1982, in Lawton. He was raised in Geary and graduated from Geary High School where he excelled playing football.
Tiffany Ann Wise, 43, of Edmond, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 6, 2020, in Edmond after a long, hard battle with metastatic breast cancer.
Tiffany was born in El Reno. She was the daughter of Cindy and Zak Elgamal of Marble Falls, Texas, and Scott Fitzgerald of Newalla. She grew up in Edmond from the age of 10 along with her younger brothers, Colby Fitzgerald and Tyler Sharum, who came into the family when Tiffany was 13.
