Having played the sport at all levels through college and then experiencing the other side as a head coach on the club and high school levels, it’s safe to say softball has been a big part of Davee Deaton’s life for decades.
So when she announced last week she was stepping down as El Reno High School’s head coach, it was a decision not made lightly.
El Reno will choose a mayor on Tuesday, deciding between four individuals. The top vote-getter will serve a three-year term.
Matt White, 47, is the incumbent, having served four terms as El Reno mayor. He is being challenged by Steve Jensen, 52, a 20-year member of the El Reno Public School Board as well as Rita Thompson, 62, and Kevan Copelin, 62, both of whom have said they are mostly retired.
Early voting was held Thursday and Friday at the Canadian County Election Board. The polls for Tuesday's election will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
A graveside memorial service for close family and friends of Debra “Debbie” Jo Foulk will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, in the Kingfisher Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home.
Prayer service for Dolores Ann Reding will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart with Rev. Kelly Edwards and Deacon Lloyd Menz officiating. Burial will be in the El Reno Cemetery under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.
Dolores died Nov. 7, 2019, at St. Katharine Drexel Retirement Center in El Reno. She was born March 28, 1946, in El Reno and was a lifelong resident of the community.
Alicia Rose Learned died Nov. 4, 2019, at her home in El Reno.
Born July 17, 1972, in Oklahoma City, Alicia was one of 10 children born to John Warren and Juanita May (Lincoln) Learned. She was a graduate of Northwestern Classen High School and a member of Drexel Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.
Wake service for Clarita Beatriz Porras was held Friday at the Concho Community Hall. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Concho Community Hall with burial in the El Reno Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.
Clarita died Nov. 2, 2019, at AMG Specialty Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was born June 20, 1975, in Clinton. She lived most of her life in El Reno but also lived in Bethany and Austin, Texas.
Memorial service for Justin Mathew Woodward of Moore will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Geary Cemetery.
Justin passed away Nov. 1, 2019, in Oklahoma City. He was born July 1, 1991, in Oklahoma City, and grew up in Moore. He was involved in Boy Scouts, achieving the level of Eagle Scout during his school years.
He had a love and knowledge of electronics which served him well into his adult life.
