Spotlight shines on local fare

El Reno has been prominently featured in ROUTE Magazine for the second consecutive issue.

The colorful periodical is published six times per year and is dedicated to all things Route 66. It is published by Thin Tread Media with Brennen Matthews serving as publisher and editor.

In the latest issue, a three-page feature highlights El Reno’s fried onion hamburger history with a special focus on Marty Hall and Sid’s Diner.

Juvenile director named

A new director for the Canadian County Children’s Justice Center has been named.

Associate District Judge Bob Hughey said Melanie Johnson has been named as the next director for the center.

He said she will begin her duties Aug. 24.

Hughey said Johnson’s background, work experience and education made her a good fit to oversee the range of services offered by the Children’s Justice Center.

El Reno earns state grant for hot spots

El Reno Public Schools was one of 175 districts statewide awarded grants last week to receive part of the 50,000 mobile hot spot devices to be used for distance learning plans for the 2020-21 school term.

“We had intended to apply for this grant as a ‘just in case’ scenario,” said El Reno Superintendent Craig McVay.

RCC Foundation raffling Corvette to launch eSports

Body

The Redlands Community College Foundation is holding a raffle for the chance to win a customized 2009 Z06 Corvette.

Proceeds will help launch the eSports program at RCC.

“eSports programs are providing great opportunities for students to attend college and become more engaged in student life,” said Redlands President Jack Bryant.

“Colleges across the country are starting eSports programs and giving students the chance to compete nationally and globally.”
