Calumet High School’s baseball team opened up the season recently with the consolation title from the Arapaho/Butler tournament.

The Chieftains bounced back from a 9-7 loss to Amber-Pocasset to defeat Blair (13-2) and Okarche (9-1) to secure the 2-1 record.

Strong pitching led the comeback as Jaxon Olive struck out 16 in the win over Blair. He threw seven innings, allowing two runs off two hits and a pair of walks.

Union City, Chieftains on opposite paths

Calumet and Union City High School’s softball teams are trending in opposite directions, with the Chieftains seeing greener pastures after losing to the Tigers to open the 2020 season.

The Chieftains have won three out of four games to improve to 3-2 on the season. Calumet went 3-1 in the recent Verden Festival with wins over Rush Springs (9-0) and the host team (7-0) before getting a revenge win over the Tigers by a 14-3 margin.

Bible Baptist Church ladies group discusses Shields for Moms, Missions Day projects

Ladies of Bible Baptist Church met recently for their monthly meeting with Jennifer Pearson presiding. She offered the devotional and led in a game called AKA Jesus.

There was discussion about a new project for the ladies called Shields for Moms to be held once a month beginning Aug. 28 at 5 p.m. at the church. There will be discussion on raising children and the home. You don’t have to have children at home to participate, anyone is welcome to attend.
