County livestock Show and Go starts Wednesday

While the food, games and entertainment of the midway will not be found, there will be plenty of activity inside the barns as the 2020 Canadian County Free Fair will hold a Junior Livestock “Show and Go.” The event starts Wednesday and wraps up Friday.

The traditional fair had to be scrapped because of COVID-19. But the livestock show will go on.

“When the board voted in mid-July to cancel this year’s fair, it was a disappointing decision to make. We know that people love the fair and like having something different to do.

Security video leads to arrest of 35-year-old man for beer theft

A 35-year-old man was taken into custody after El Reno police watched a security video and recognized him as the suspect who allegedly broke into a convenience store and made off with a carton of beer.

Assistant Police Chief Ken Dickerson said Elijah Blue Ervin was arrested after police found him near Cooney and South Choctaw. Police had been called about 12:30 a.m. Aug. 24 to the Valero 66 Mart, 1220 S. Rock Island, after an alarm indicated a break-in at the store.

El Reno police investigate possible links after two men stabbed on city’s east side

Police are trying to determine if two stabbings at separate locations might be related.

Assistant Police Chief Kirk Dickerson said officers were called to a residence in the 300 block of North Macomb shortly after 10 p.m. Aug. 17. When they arrived they found an adult male had been stabbed.

Emergency medical care arrived and began treating the man.

While this was taking place, a call came in reporting another stabbing, this one in the 300 block of North Hoff.

ER softball splits bids on the road

With just one win outside of league play, El Reno High School’s softball team continues to find success among District 5A-1 opponents.

The Indians banged out 13 hits last week to defeat Duncan 5-1 to improve to 2-0 in the league standings and 3-3 on the season. El Reno opened the week with a 10-0 loss to Shawnee.

In the win over the Demons, El Reno got doubles from Bailey Brothers and Kira Taber. The big swing, though, was a solo home run by Chenoa White in the top of the third for a 3-0 lead.
