Call to sacrifice and commitment: The letters of a WWII sailor

Body

Since my dad’s passing, I have carried his dog tag on my key chain. I wanted a daily reminder of my dad and his sacrificial service to our nation in World War II.

My dad was the classic WWII vet who did not often speak of his time in the war. I regret not asking him more questions.

Personally, I missed the mandatory draft by a few years, turning 18 in 1976. But I had two older friends, the Harris brothers in my neighborhood, who went to Vietnam and never came back.

El Reno falls to Big Mac attack

Body

After matching home run shots in the first inning, Lawton MacArthur went on a 12-3 run to spoil senior night festivities for El Reno High School’s softball team.

The Highlanders handed El Reno a 14-5 defeat as the Indians slipped to 6-9 on the season. El Reno still stands in third place in the District 5A-1 standings at 4-2.

MacArthur got a two-run homer in the top of the first, only to watch El Reno tie the game in the bottom half of the frame. With Bailey Brothers on board by a single, Chenoa White powered a hit over the wall in left to tie the game.
