El Reno drops regular-season finale 5-2, 5A playoffs up next

El Reno High School’s softball team capped off the regular season last week with a 5-2 loss at Enid.

The Indians will take a 13-20 record into this week’s regional tournament, but its destination has yet to be determined.

El Reno will either travel to Guthrie or Woodward depending on the outcome of the District 5A-2 series between the schools.

The Indians were third in District 5A-1.

Friday last day to register to vote for upcoming elections

Friday, Oct. 9 is the last day to apply for voter registration in order to be eligible to vote in the Nov. 3 General Election, City of Oklahoma City Special Election and City of El Reno Ward 1 Council Member Election, said Canadian County Election Board Secretary Wanda Armold.

Armold said that persons who are U.S. citizens, residents of Oklahoma and at least 18 years old may apply to become registered voters.

Some county workers could see hike in pay

Canadian County officials say nothing is more important than the well-being of their employees. Some of those workers could soon get a raise.

At a recent budget meeting, commissioners and other county officers praised employees for how they have handled the COVID-19 situation.

The county workers were applauded for their patience, the extra work they’ve put in over the summer and their willingness to serve the public in the midst of a pandemic.

Memorial services for Gregory Eugene Banks were held Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Fresh Anointing Church with Rev. Chris E. Johnson, Daniel Stalling Sr. and Chris Caldwell officiating. 

Mr. Banks died Sept. 23, 2020, at his home in El Reno. He was born June 6, 1961, in El Reno. He graduated from El Reno High School and served in the U.S. Army. He worked in the oil fields and was a member of the Fresh Anointing Church. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, cooking and grilling.
