Canadian County CASA Inc. (Court Appointed Special Advocates) has welcomed its newest volunteers.

Susan Linderer, Autumn Detamore and Barbie Grider made the commitment to give their time to help abused and neglected children in the community.

Canadian County Associate District Judge Bob Hughey swore in the new volunteers, and they have been appointed to their first CASA cases.

Weatherford’s Aiden Willard pinned El Reno High School wrestler Nicholas Mitchum with 57 seconds left in their heavyweight match as the Eagles rallied for a 39-38 victory.

The loss to Weatherford, ranked No.14 in Class 4A, dropped the unranked Indians to 1-1 on the dual season.

Juliana Thomas came up with a steal in the waning seconds to preserve a two-point victory as El Reno High School’s girls basketball team jumped back into the district win column.

El Reno moves to 2-1 on the season with a 43-41 road win over Noble. The Indians hold the same record in the District 5A-2 standings and move up to third behind Carl Albert and Midwest City – both at 2-0.

Thomasv steal came near mid-court and resulted in a jump ball whistle as time expired. El Reno led 43-39 and fought off four 3-point shots by Noble in the final two minutes.

A third straight double-digit loss has dropped El Reno High School’s boys basketball team to the cellar of the 5A-2 standings for the first time since large schools switched to district format.

El Reno suffered a 62-40 setback to Noble to slip to 0-3 on the year. It’s the first time in more than a decade for the Indians to start a season with three straight losses.

Rodney Haydon’s team is tied with Guthrie, Guymon and Southeast for fifth in the standings but slides to eighth on the tiebreaker points.
