Lamplighters OHCE gather at local church

Lamplighters OHCE of Canadian County met recently at Mount Zion Global Methodist Church. Carol Stine called the meeting to order, with Jan Maddox offering a devotional titled “Trust.”

Janice Taylor was birthday honoree.

Maxine Little read minutes from the last meeting, while Patricia Morrison gave the treasurer’s report.

Taylor installed officers for the coming year, using a program called “Sweet Time.”

It was noted the passing of Charleece McBee. She had been a member of OHCE for 45 years. A memorial was sent to Highland Baptist in her honor.

Redlands, Northwestern OSU deal to help nursing students further education

Redlands Community College President Jena Marr and Northwestern Oklahoma State University President Dr. Bo Hannaford signed a partnership agreement recently to allow Redlands nursing students to seamlessly continue their education at the university.

Graduates of Redlands nursing program will be given credit at Northwestern for specific courses already taken, totaling 48 credit hours.

El Reno Wranglers to ride in St. Patrick's Day Parade

The El Reno Wranglers held their January meeting at the 4-H Building, with Trish Duncan and Jimmy Johnston leading the flag salute and Gary Sorrells offering prayer. 

It was noted the club received thank-you cards from The Lord’s Harvest, Mobile Meals and House of Healing for recent donations.

The club will participate in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade at the OKC Stockyards on March 16. 

Next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 1 at the 4-H Building. Anyone interested in becoming a member of the El Reno Wranglers is welcome to attend.

Churn earns NSHSS achievement

Body

Calumet High School student Peyton Churn is among those recognized for superior academic achievement by the National Society of High School Scholars.

The society recognizes top scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship and community commitment.

NSHHS members automatically become lifetime members at the time of their initial membership. Each step along the way – from high school to college to career – NSHSS connects outstanding young scholars with the resources they need to develop their strengths and pursue their passions.

SWOSU releases fall honor rolls

The President’s and Dean’s Honor Rolls at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Sayre and Yukon have been announced for the 2023 fall semester. To be listed on the President’s Honor Roll, students must earn all A’s in 12 or more hours during a semester. Those named to the Dean’s Honor Roll must complete 12 semester hours of undergraduate work with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher with no grade lower than a C.

Scouts collect food

El Reno Scouts came together last week to round up food for The Lord’s Harvest.

Beth Griesel led the youngsters in the effort and together they delivered non-perishable food items to Nikki Pruitt, founder and director of The Lord’s Harvest.
