Times are changing at City Hall

The El Reno City Council moved forward on a number of projects at last week’s regular monthly meeting and agreed to alter the office hours at City Hall over the summer.

The new summer hours will be Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. On Friday, offices will open at 7:30 and will close at 11:30 a.m.

City Manager Matt Sandidge said the new hours will take effect May 30 and will run to Labor Day. He said a number of municipal governments have gone to this format and are finding success with it, including Mustang.

El Reno’s Dill named chief engineer for OTA

El Reno’s T.J. Dill has been named chief engineer for the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority.

In his new role, he will be responsible for overseeing engineering, construction, maintenance, right-of-way and utilities along Oklahoma turnpikes.

Dill, a graduate of El Reno High School, earned his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering at Oklahoma State University. He joined OTA in 2020 as the Director of Construction.

County plans to use COWIB work program

Canadian County government leaders plan to utilize services provided by a nonprofit entity to find and train skilled, productive workers.

Commissioners discussed an agreement with the Central Oklahoma Workforce Innovation Board (COWIB) to participate in a Work Experience (WEX) program.

“They will help us to find employees who will come here to gain experience,” District 3 Commissioner Tracey Rider said.

Fort Reno Visitors Center, museum getting beautified through DAR chapter’s 250 Project

Members of the Fort Reno DAR chapter have been working to beautify the Historic Fort Reno Visitors Center and Museum.

This effort is for their “250 Project” to commemorate our nation’s 250th birthday.

This was the DAR’s second working event at the museum, done on a quarterly basis.

The Fort Reno DAR’s support for the Visitors Center and Museum has been greatly appreciated, said museum officials.

Calumet, El Reno players earn spots on WOBCA All-Star rosters

Both Calumet and El Reno high schools will be sending players to Wednesday’s Western Oklahoma Baseball Coaches Association’s All-Star Games to be played in Weatherford.

Calumet’s Caleb Meschberger will play in the Small School Game, which starts at 4:30 p.m., followed by Ty Vincent in the Large School Game to follow.

It’s the second year in a row for El Reno to have a player selected for the event.

Both players played similar roles for their squads during the recent spring season, each starting in the outfield but seeing time in the field or on the mound.
