Football will have a very vanilla feel for El Reno High School come Friday night as the Indians host a triangular scrimmage with both Clinton and Lawton Eisenhower.
The event was originally set for just Clinton and will serve as the Indians only preseason work.
El Reno opens the 2019 season Aug. 30 with a home game against Poteau.
“I’m just looking for effort and people running to the football. We are not going to scheme either team, just go out there and run our plays,” said El Reno head coach Chuck Atchison.
Those plays, said Atchison, will be very vanilla.
“We are going to be very basic in everything we do. I just don’t want to show everything we have. We will start scheming for Poteau next week,” said Atchison.
The addition of Lawton Ike came after the Eagles had a lost preseason date.
“They called begging me to let them in because something happened to one of their scrimmages. This is not the first time I’ve hosted a triangular but the first since I've been here,” said Atchison.
Freshman teams will scrimmage at 6 p.m. Varsity teams will take the field at 7 p.m.
“It will be a rotation format with two teams on and one team off,” said Atchison.
