Calumet High School’s spring baseball season ended recently with an 18-4 loss to fifth-ranked Fort Cobb-Broxton in the title round of the Class B, Region 5 Championships.

Calumet, ranked No.13 in the state, closed the year at 18-10.

The Chieftains reached the rematch with the Mustangs after eliminating Duke by an 8-4 score. Jake Percival’s double led an eight-hit attack in the DHS victory, with Dacus Cooper going 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Jett Snowden, Kaleb Melvin, James Nitzel, Ryan Island and Gunner Snowden posted a hit each.

Melvin tossed a four-hitter over seven innings for the win, striking out 13 batters and walking three.

The win over Duke moved Calumet into a two-win scenario over Fort Cobb-Broxton to make the state tourney. However, the Chieftains bats could manage only five hits and four runs in the first game.

Nitzel led the CHS hitting with a 2-for-2 effort, while Melvin singled along with Seth Snyder and Jaxon Olive.

Percival, Olive and Ryder Thompson saw time on the hill. The trio had a combined line of 18 runs, nine hits, nine walks and two strikeouts over four innings.
