A Chickasha man was killed Sunday morning when an explosion rocked the well field service shop where he was working.
Officials said Travis Farley, 48, was killed in the explosion.
Farley was working at Canyon Well Service, 1610 SH 66, when the welding torch he was using caused the explosion.
Farley was said to be working inside an empty tank truck. Officials believe the torch ignited vapors inside the tanker causing the explosion.
The explosion happened about 7 a.m. and could be heard throughout El Reno.
Another person was working with Farley, but had left the shop area where the explosion took place, fire officials said. No other injuries were reported.
According to Deputy Chief Fire Marshal Jonathan Strahorn, an empty tanker is actually more dangerous than a full one, as more vapors can build up within the space.
Strahorn said the exact cause of Farley’s death will be determined by the medical examiner.
