FORFEITS HAUNT ER MATMEN
BY GLEN MILLER
Edition:Sunday, December 20, 2009

Three forfeits and a lackluster effort of wrestling from the down position extended El Reno High School's losing streak to four duals last week with a 49-36 loss to Elk City.
The Indians, ranked seventh in the state in the latest Class 5A dual rankings, dropped to 0-4 on the season.
“It's not hard to do the math,” interim head coach Jay Howard said. “We lose by 13 points and we give up 18 points on forfeits.”
Howard said the Indians did not perform well when wrestling off their feet.
“Our inexperience on bottom is still killing us,” Howard said. “We're not getting up and wrestling. We're getting dominated on bottom and that leads to majors and falls.”
El Reno got off on a good foot as 103-pounder Jon Grube pinned Cody Williamson in 2:30. However, the Indians would slide starting at 112 pounds with Trey Smillie's 5-0 loss to Hunter Christian.
Wiley Hokett was pinned at 119 pounds (1:40) by Justin Williamson that gave Elk City a 9-6 lead. El Reno then dropped 12 more points with forfeits at both 125 and 130 pounds that put the Elks out in front 21-6.
Aaron Mailloux dropped a 12-3 decision at 135 pounds to Tyler Gifford that extended Elk City's lead to 25-6. Both teams forfeited at 140 pounds, followed by the Indians fourth free pass of the night at 145 pounds – leaving the score at 37-12.
Elk City increased that lead to 49-12 as Kaden Lovelace pinned Jacob Awbrey (5:02) at 152 pounds and Conley Gilliland pinned Jeremiah Goodblanket (1:15) at 160 pounds.
El Reno stopped the skid at 171 pounds as Spencer Jackson scored a 1:30 fall over John Garrett. Cory Dauphin then dismantled Aaron Cromer at 189 pounds, booking 10 takedowns and a two-point near fall before scoring the fall 41 seconds into the second period.
Christian Bryant needed only 51 seconds to pin David Clinton at 215 pounds as the win pulled the Indians to within 19 points at 49-30.
Heavyweight Cody Dauphin made the final deficit at 13 points with his 2:13 fall over Josiah Martinez.
