BY GLEN MILLER
Edition:Wednesday, November 04, 2009

EDMOND – It was a day of mixed results for El Reno High School's entries at the 2009 Class 5A State Cross Country Championships.
Aubrey Karty led the two EHS runners in the girls race, completing the 3,200-meter course at Mitch Park with a time of 13:23.39 – which netted her 32nd place.
Karty had an average mile time of 6:44.1, finishing ahead of 76 other runners. She had the sixth fastest time of the runners making state on an individual pass.
Teammate Amber Piasecki crossed the finish line with a time of 14:23.05 to take 67th out of the 108-runner field. She had an average mile time of 7:14.1.
Both runners surpassed their times at the 5A West Regional only a week earlier. Karty trimmed 18 seconds off her time after running a 13:41 at the Norman regional. Piasecki cut three seconds off her total time from the regional meet.
El Reno's boys ran their way to a eighth-place team finish, completing the 5-kilometer course with a total time of 1:33.44 seconds.
The Indians had an average time of 18:44, amassing 227 total points, ending in a tie with Duncan but losing on the tiebreaker.
Frankie Cometsevah had the fastest El Reno time at 18:03, which was eight seconds faster than his regional time, earning him 27th place. He had an average mile time of 5:48.
Dallas Woodcock was close behind in 42nd place, running the course in 18:28, also eight seconds faster than his regional effort. He had an average mile time of 5:56.7.
Dante Sanders made the biggest jump in time from regional to state, cutting 29 seconds to take 60th place with a time of 18:57.
Luis DeLaTorre crossed the finish line in 19:01, trimming 17 seconds off his regional time to take 63rd overall. Abraham Gonzalez slipped in time but still ran a 19:14 to place 70th out of 111 runners.
Marco Hernandez struggled to a 93rd-place finish with a time of 20:42. Henry Gallegos closed out the EHS effort with a time of 21:10 to take 103rd.
