REDLANDS TO HOST RECEPTION FOR EXHIBIT
SUBMITTED
Edition:Sunday, November 22, 2009

Visit with accomplished artist and photographer Matt Jarvis about his exhibit, China Re-Collections, and the inspirations behind the works during an upcoming event at Redlands Community College. RCC will host a closing reception for the Jarvis exhibit from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday at the Fine Arts Gallery. The closing reception will include a presentation on "New Documentation Photography" starting at 4:30 p.m.
Jarvis will be on hand to meet with gallery patrons to discuss his exhibit, as well as present on-documentation photography. Refreshments will be served and there is no charge to attend.
Jarvis received his master''s of fine art degree from the University of Oklahoma in 2003 and his bachelor''s of fine art degree from the University of Washington in 1996 with the study of photography. He resides in Pawhuska.
Within the exhibit China Re-Collections, Jarvis wanted to mimic scrolls that he saw in Chinese residences, but he also wanted to illustrate the China of today with old scrapbooks of travel to exotic places with contemporary images, thus dispelling the former myths. He spent July 2006 discovering different parts of China, including areas that had not seen Caucasians in three years. From these travels he developed the images for the exhibit.
China Re-Collections will be on display through Monday. RCC''s Fine Arts Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. There is no charge for admission and the public is invited to visit the gallery.
