EDMOND - Fueled by three inside-the-park home runs, two by Logan Gillock, Union City High School's baseball team swept a twinbill from Oklahoma Christian Academy.
Playing at Bronchos Field on the University of Central Oklahoma campus, Union City took the opening game by a 9-0 count. The Tigers then won the nightcap by a 7-0 score.
The sweep lifted the Tigers to 16-5 on the season.
Union City looked sluggish in the opening game, taking a 1-0 lead on a Kolton Brown triple, scoring Gillock (walk). In the third inning, Gillock and Brown scored for the Tigers - which drew five walks in the half inning.
Leading 3-0, Union City pushed home six runs in the fourth inning. Mike Wall was hit by a pitch and scored on a double by Brandon Roberts. Gillock drew a walk ahead on a two-run double to the wall by Brown - who later scored on a passed ball.
Robert Red followed with the first in-the-park homer for an 8-0 lead, which was proceeded by a Donald Duffey double and an RBI-single by Garrett Lessman.
Union City had six hits, two by Brown, and another from Colten Armstrong.
Brown threw four innings for the win, striking out 11 batters and walking one. The right-hander allowed two hits.
In game two, Brayden Jones made his first start of the season and lasted five complete innings for the win. The right-hander issued three hits, three walks and fanned six batters.
He got the offenses needed in the first as Gillock doubled ahead of back-to-back OCA errors to load the bases. Duffey then tripled in Gillock, Anthony Fanzo and Brown.
Gillock led off the third inning with his first round-tripper, followed by a Brown single, two errors, a sacrifice fly by Lessman and a Jones one-bagger.
Up 6-0 going into the fourth, Gillock hit his second inside-the-park homer. Gillock was 3-for-3 on the day, while Brown, Jones, Duffey and Wall all singled.
