ARAPAHO - In the first game of its district playoffs, Calumet High School's softball team faced the host team, the Arapaho Indians. The Chieftains would last five innings against the Indians, losing by a 10-0 run rule.
Taylor Ware was 2-for-2 in the game, while Mariel Miles went 1-for-2.
Calumet would then be on the right side of a 10-0 score, beating Okarche to eliminate the Warriors from postseason play. Chasity Stanke went 2-for-4 with a pair of triples, while Mariah Miles went 3-for-3 with a double.
Mariel Miles went 1-for-2, while Brandy Barker and Ware each went 1-for-3. Emily Eaton went 1-for-4 in the game.
After taking down the Warriors, Calumet would then play another elimination game against Hydro-Eakly. As was the case in all Calumet games in this tournament, the winner would score 10 runs. It would not, however, be Calumet.
Hydro won by a score of 10-1, but would need all seven innings to do so. Stanke went 2-for-3 with a double, while Dina Panzarella and Eaton each went 1-for-3.
The Chieftains finished the year with a record of 5-13.
“Against Arapaho we missed some early opportunities and weren't hitting well,” said coach Tyler Snowden. “We hit well against Okarche, played good defense and were a lot more relaxed. Hydro hit well and we made mistakes that led to runs for them. We improved over the course of the season. It hurt us to not get as many games in as we would have liked, we needed to get more reps. The girls, they hung in there and worked hard to get better all year.”
