Redlands Community College women's basketball team had its season halted one game shy of the National Junior College Athletic Association's Division II National Championships.
The Cougars dropped a 67-43 contest to Kansas-based Johnson County in the District B Championships played at Wichita State University. Johnson County (26-3) jumped a spot in the latest national poll to No. 2 behind Kirkwood College.
Redlands ends its season with a 16-16 mark.
The Cougars reached the District B Championship by winning the South B Championship with a 86-57 win over Northern Arkansas. Alex Foster was a one-woman wrecking crew with 13 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and four blocked shots.
Redlands had four other players in double digits, with Hannah Weldon scoring 15 points and grabbing four rebounds. Tabby Bailey added 13 points, four boards and a steal, followed by Dianna Glass and Kyesha Hall with 12 points each. Hall grabbed seven boards and Glass added six.
Karisha Walder closed with nine points, three blocked shots and eight rebounds.
Redlands moved into that title game with an 85-76 win over 20th-ranked Louisiana State University of Eunice. Six players finished in double digits led by Hall with 14 points. Bailey, Glass, Shalay Stancle and Foster each had 12 points, Weldon posted 11 points and Walder added eight.
The Cougars got a double-double from Foster with a team-high 12 rebounds, followed by Walder's eight rebounds, six from Hall, five by Glass and four boards by Weldon.
The defense got three steals each from Hall and Foster, two by Glass and one each from Bailey and Stancle. Foster and Walder blocked three shots each.
